About Me

Nzinga Kadalie
Writer / Director / Performer I do my best to enjoy my life. I love creating stuff that makes people feel something. If I can do that, then the work is pretty cool. I'm originally from Atlanta, a Grady Baby, people from Atlanta know what I'm talking about. I grew up in Talladega, Alabama. There was a chicken farm, a racetrack, the Helen Keller School for the Deaf & Blind, a Walmart and a Historically Black College -- Talladega College. It was in this place that I learned what real America was. I later realized that Alabama taught me everything I needed to know about race relations, negotiating identity as a weirdo with dreads, being the militant black chick, etc. etc. But it's pretty standard that most places outside of major cities are where the real people live. The ones that make the red states and invented snickerdoodles. And I lived there. Real America. Then I left and went to Urban America -- totally a preference of mine -- where I learned how to write and shoot the eccentricities of the lives of real people.
